Jellal Nightwalker, formerly known as Axel Gremory is the main male protagonist of Highschool DxD AxA. He is the eldest son of Issei Hyodou and Rias Gremory, the older brother of Ex Gremory, the nephew of Sirzechs Gremory, the cousin of Milicas Gremory and Leticiel Gremory and the grandson of Zeoticus and Venelana Gremory. Known as the Underworld Destroyer, Jellal is one of the co-founders and a leader of Sephiroth Nightfall under the codename Epsilon Wraith. He is also a member of the Worst Generation.

Appearance

Jellal is a young man of a tall height with a lean and extremely muscular build due to his immense training. He has shoulder length spiky hair which is a mix of brown and crimson hair, an unusual and unique hair colour which were inherited from both of his parents and light brown eyes. Jellal has immense resemblance to his father Issei Hyodou when Issei was in his teenage years with exact facial features albeit with significantly longer hair and a quiet demanor. When enraged, his eyes became cold and menacing. Jellal wore various different outfits such as the Robe of the Fire Rat and Rossweisse's Muffler, Jellal wore a silver crucifix rosary given to him by Gabriel. As an exorcist, Jellal wore jet black priest vestments with crimson red accents.

Personality

Jellal is extremely relaxed and sensible with a quiet, introverted, reclusive personality with immense maturity beyond his age since childhood. He possess unwavering will and unbreakable determination to protect those who are important to him. Having witnessed many tragedies and also personally suffered great hardships and emotional pain of losing Reshiroth, Cardia, Wakoto and Vergil who were among the most important people to him in life, Jellal is always calm and phlegmatic, who rarely express his emotions due to superb emotional control. His melancholic experiences grants him immense wisdom and emotional intelligence with deep understanding of people's personality and relationships, being a pragmatic realist, Jellal is disdainful of pure idealism and despise naivety, believeing that idealism without an understanding of reality are delusional and impractical. Due to his liberalist mindset along with the experiences in his life which is further influenced by Vergil's beliefs during their childhood, Jellal believed its is a person's own choices, actions and how they live their lives that defines them instead of their bloodline, lineage and heritage. Thus, despite learning of his lineage as the first son of Issei and Rias, Jellal does'nt consider himself as a member of the Hyoudou Family nor the Gremory Clan due to his choice to live as Jellal Nightwalker, while Jellal genuinely respect his biological parents as good people, he does not considered them family due to his lack of familial love towards them as he believed it is mutual love that defines a family instead of blood ties as Lecheroth, Cardia and Gabriel (AxA counterpart) had dearly loved him as their foster son despite the fact he is not blood related to them. Jellal held complete disdain for people using bloodlines, heritage and lineage as justification for their actions such as the Devil Kings Clans. He sharply criticized Damaidosu Zereikel Asmodeus (AxA counterpart) for glorifying himself solely because of his lineage, delusionally believeing he had the right to rule the world simply because he is the son of Devil King Asmodeus. He also held immense hatred towards the Six Houses of Lucifer for condemning Vergil to death simply for being the son of a Lucifer Slayer where his father Sparda was already punished for killing Rizevim by execution years ago whereas Vergil himself had did nothing to offend the Lucifer Faction. It is precisely because of such beliefs, Jellal chose to secretly spared the life of Deous Lucifuge's newborn second daughter Eleonora due to believeing that her lineage has nothing to do with her father's sins.

Traumatized forever by the deaths of Lecheroth and Cardia, the bitter torment of his powerlessness and inability to protect his two foster mothers led Jellal to developed an extremely strong thirst for power, constantly and intensively trained with immense diligence to achieve greater strength and improved his fighting skills. Believeing that both power and resolve are necessary to realize one's desire, in addition to physical and magical training, Jellal also underwent intense meditation to train his mind and willpower, developing a tremendous will that allows him to defy the worst horrors such as death to defeat enemies.

As stated by Gabriel, Tiavi and Wakoto, Jellal has tremendous kindness which contributes to his immense selflessness, willing to endanger his life to help his friends and comrades. He would also do whatever he can to help people in need. The most prominent example is when he did his best to helped Kyuki and Yuki to overcome their sadness, despair and emotional pain regarding their respective tragedies to move on with their lives and find new happiness in the future. Though Jellal acknowledged there is a limit to how much help he can give other as he realistically understand the limits of what is truly possible. However, Jellal is completely merciless and unforgiving when roused by extreme anger and hatred towards those who hurts the people he cares about.

Jellal is righteous as he completely despises cruelty and wickedness and will violently assault anyone who indulges in such actions without mercy and hesitation, no matter what the consequences may be. Jellal despised pride, deeming it to be the most dangerous out of the Seven Deadly Sins, as it is what gave rise to arrogant tyrants and despots. He also greatly dislike misguided virtues, believing it will cause more harm than good.

Likewise, despite his kindness, righteousness and morality which he inherited from his parents, due to his extremely realistic, cynical, grim and hardened outlook on life and people contrary to Issei and Rias, Jellal has no qualms in using violence to counter malice, evil to destroyed evil as shown by his brutal massacaring of the Lucifer Six in revenge for Vergil's death even outright telling Sirzechs that he is not a saint nor a bodhisattva as he is not pure in virtues and morals. Jellal also does not bother justify what he had done to the AxA universe version of Grayfia and her family the Lucifuge clan when Sirzechs confronted him about it, due to understanding the fact that Sirzechs's personal values of idealistic peace and justice and the Gremory family values of strong affection and family love would never accept the fact that he a Gremory descendant had commited family killing by massacring the misguidedly corrupted Lucifuge clan, knowing the Gremory would still considered them family due to their blood ties to Sirzechs's wife Grayfia regardless of any valid reasons. While he respect his biological father Issei as a good man, he also dismissed Issei as a happy go lucky perverted idiot dragon who simplistically risked his life fighting for his sexual desire for breasts, peace and justice with utmost effort. Thus, Jellal also considered himself to be different from his father in the fact that they had embrace different values in life, as he himself cherished one thing alone, liberty, the freedom to live his life however he wants with the people he cares about and unlike his father, he is not that magnanimous enough to always forgive and forgive everything, calling himself a small minded man. While Jellal would not hurt people and create chaos for selfish desires like the Khaos Bridgade, he would not hesitate to destroyed peace for the sake of freedom when oppressive people tried to force their values upon him as he had done by declaring war against the Lucifer faction for forcing their values upon him and the people he cares about.

Jellal is also extremely pessimistic due to his realistic worldview and learning and witnessing countless bad and frightening horrors, injustices and cruelties, Jellal have a very deep awareness and understanding of people's wicked and malicious nature and their overall potential for evil and cruelty. Therefore while he respect his uncle Sirzechs as a good man, he also greatly scorned and despised his soft way of thinking to be too idealistic and naive for always attempting to used peaceful reasoning on corrupt villains, fiercely criticize him for believing and hoping evil people will always have any possiblity for redemption even for those who are already considered incorrigible, claiming that for all his superior power and abilities, he take decisive actions against evil people only after there are victims and casualties, reminding Sirzechs of his past personal tragedy that his beloved choir of Devil children helplessly slaughtered by Old Satan Faction that partially stems from his naivety rather than lack of power and abilities to protect them. Due to his foster mother Lecheroth's wise teachnings and his own social experience, Jellal is also careful in who he choose to trust as he avoid being too trusting and gullible as he is aware that misguided trust in the wrong people could lead to consequences. While Jellal is willing to help people in need, he is also careful in who he chose to help as he will not help suspicious or evil and depraved people particularly those who are pure evil and logically beyond redemption as he greatly scored the idea of specially make sacrifices to protect whom he considered utter assholes and scumbags as he harshly insult Sirzechs for his naive ideal of settling grudges and conflicts peacefully with the Lucifuge clan for Grayfia's sake.

Jellal can also be very sharp and harsh when criticizing people.

Similar to his father, Jellal is immensely diligent and hardworking as shown by the immense effort he put into his training and studies. Believeing even the best talents have limits, and there are things that can only be attained through personal effort and determination.

Unlike his mother's frivolous spending habit, Jellal is very thrifty and frugal, being careful and economical in spending money, as like his stepmother Rossweisse, he would bought most of his basic needs such as clothings in 100 yen shops in Japan. He would occasionally indulged on luxury such as expensive gourmet meals and alcohol in moderation, though despite his thriftiness, Jellal is willing to splurge when it comes to his wives and lovers, lavished them with gifts and luxuries.

Stemming from his thriftiness, Jellal have become extremely resourceful and self-sufficient when it comes to his hobbies and daily needs without spending much on money such as using his magic skills and knowledge for his utilities such as alchemy to create pottery without spending money on a kiln, use teleportation magic for long distance transport to save transportation fare, use water magic to produce clean water for drinking, bathing and cooking to save up on water bills.

Jellal's pragmatism and further influence by Issei Hyodou (AxA universe counterpart)'s ideology, Jellal does not seek pleasure in fighting and killing, he pragmatically disregard any code of honor and morality in battle, willing to use deception, trickery, and dirty tactics to gain any advantage over his enemies.

Unlike Rias, Jellal is non-competitive, as he has no interest in competing, finding the concept of winning and losing to be meaningless. Jellal disdain perfection as he believed there is only improvement, that the concept of perfection does not exist at all.

Like his father, Jellal has tremendous sexual desires with a particular fetish for breasts, however unlike Issei, Jellal has very high level of self control due to his wisdom and belief in the importance of temperance, as he believed that letting desires growing out of control has dangerous consequences, thus Jellal never openly expressed his sexual desires in the same manner as Issei such as peeking on naked women or openly ogling at women's breasts. Jellal would only expressed his lust by playing eroge visual novels, reading hentai manga, watching hentai anime or having extremely passionate sex with his wives and lovers. Though Jellal does have a tendency to subconciously stare at beautiful and attractive women's breasts with a blank expression. Jellal enjoyed having sex with beautiful and attractive women. He has no qualms in commiting adultery, turning a married housewife and loving mother into a complete nymphomaniac. When he committed adultery with married women, he would do his best to keep the affair a secret especially from his lover's spouse, believing extramarital affairs are meant to be kept secret. He is also considerate enough not to completely steal the already married lovers from their husbands as he did not wish to destroyed their marriage, being content in being able to have sex with them and secretly sired children with them as a sign of love such as Natsumi with Yusuke Yagami's Mother and Milista with Valentina.

As part of his belief in temperance, Jellal made sure to never let his personal greed and selfish desires to grow out of control, due to him believing that the price of excessive greed is always fatal. In every castles of the Six Houses of Lucifer Jellal lead his army to capture and pillage, Jellal kept only fifteen percent of any wealth and valuable treasures the Six Houses of Lucifer had for his own self, while generously giving the rest to his army of mercenaries and bandits as he promised.

Jellal is also a glutton, as he loved to eat delicious food, particularly European cuisine and Japanese cuisine, the former stemming from his childhood living in England and Wales and the latter stemming from Lecheroth frequently cooked for him Japanese food or took him to Japan to eat Japanese regional cuisine of various places particularly Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sendai and Hokkaido. His motivation for his cooking hobby is mainly to satisfy his own appetite.

Much like Issei, Jellal has a habit of not forgiving himself if he does something wrong due to a strong sense of responsibility which causes him to take responsibility for any unfavourable situations that occur around him, regardless of whether he is at fault or not. He blamed himself for every tragedy that has occured in his life, such as the deaths of his foster mothers, Wakoto and Vergil, believeing his own weakness and lack of ability to protect them to be the main cause for their deaths. When he decided to seek vengance against Layla Lucifer and the Lucifer Six, ruthlessly massacring the Devils of the Lucifer Faction including killing his former friend Alivar Fleurety who got in his way and sacrificing Estelle Orobas for the Uroborous Stone of Soul, Jellal was fully prepared to eventually face retribution for his actions. Jellal even believed himself to have gone too far for redemption, thus his initial refusal to return back despite the best efforts of Lieselotte, Rio, Dante and Luther. It was only after a future Zangetsu persuaded him after defeating him in a duel along with helping him revive Estelle, did Jellal decided not to let his sins influenced him anymore, willingly surrender himself to the Church to start over.

An extremely avid reader, Jellal is deeply interested in reading English literature and Japanese literature. He also gained an interest in French literature, German literature and Italian literature due to Vergil's influence. Jellal is particularly interested in magic texts and grimoires due to his intense dedication to his magic training. He would even makes numerous hand-copies and photocopies of any magic books he managed to find to add to his collection. Even during his vengeance on the Lucifer faction, Jellal continued to read voraciously after each personal training session, in every territory of the Lucifer factions he captured with his army of bandits and mercenaries, he would told his soldiers to collect all their books particularly magical books from castles and other important locations to add to his collection which he would read in his spare time.

A music lover, Jellal likes to play the taiko, shinobue and piano.

Much like his biological mother Rias, Jellal has an obsessive fascination with Japan and Japanese culture stemming from Lecheroth's Japanophile influence. This led to him develop several passionate hobbies in Japanese culture such as reading Japanese light novels and manga, practising Kendo and Ninjutsu, playing eroge visual novels, watching Japanese anime and movies and writing Japanese calligraphy. He also made Japanese teabowls and teacups due to his interest in green tea and Japanese raku ware pottery.

When Jellal was four years old, a day before his fifth birthday, he was abducted by Devils from AxA universe specifically the Lucifer faction

Master Magician: Jellal is an outstandingly formidable master of magic due to both naturally incredible genius magic talent and enormous amount of diligent magic training, honing his magic skills and potential to uttermost perfection, eventually surpassing his foster mother Cardia and magic mentor Rossweisse (AxA Universe Counterpart) in terms of skills, allowing Jellal to cast high level spells and even difficult magic techniques near instantly, quickly becoming immensely skilled and masterful with any new magic spells he learnt. Through continuous, diligent study and intensive practise, Jellal has immense knowledge and incredible understanding of magic, able to invent his own spells, having developed more powerful variations of specific spells he learnt, even invent unique and versatile spells. Jellal had also studied in depth countless magic books and grimoires in the Mugen Tenshin Library of Magic and later from the personal libraries of the Six Houses of Lucifer which he looted, Lecheroth’s personal collection of grimoires and the Ansullivan Magic Academy, which immensely increased his magic knowledge, thus Jellal became a diverse master in White Magic, Black Magic, Devil Magic, Spirit Magic, Fallen Angel Magic, Holy Magic and particularly has the greatest mastery in Norse Magic and Ninja Magic. When Jellal time slipped to the past, he also learned ancient magic from Morgana Le Fay, Johann Georg Faust and many ancient grimoires of Eastern Magic found in the Abbasid Caliphate House of Wisdom. He also learned Onmyoudou magic from Abe no Seimei in the Heian period.

• Elemental Magic: Jellal is extremely well-versed in a variety of elemental magic spells such as water, wind, fire, ice, earth, lightning, darkness and light. In addition to using elemental magic for long range elemental attacks, Jellal can also used elemental magic to increased the power of his physical attacks by channeling it into his punches and kicks or imbued it into weapons such as swords for enhanced offensive power.

In an attempt to resurrect Estelle Orobas whom he had selfishly sacrificed for the Uroboros Stone of Soul whose body and soul was permanently sealed into the Uroborous Stone itself, Jellal learnt to use yet to be discovered alchemy knowledge and spells from the future through Zangetsu's Chokmah Rasiel's omniscience powers, aided by Zangetsu's own advanced alchemy skills and the Shadow Boosted Gear, Jellal succeeded in transmuting the Uroboros Stone of Soul into Estelle, reconstructing the Philosopher Stone itself on a molecular level into Estelle's original body that was sealed within it due to being impossible to unsealed and released Estelle herself from the Stone, in the process, turning the revived Estelle into a living Philosopher's Stone. Jellal is also extremely skilled in using alchemy for craftsmanship, mainly to create Japanese pottery such as chawan tea bowls and yunomi tea cups, he can also create many kinds of objects such as jewellery, cookware and kitchen utensils using alchemy.
• Clay Magic: Jellal can use clay magic to create and control clay. Jellal mainly used clay magic to generate his own supply of clay for making raku ware with alchemy.
• Mineral Magic: Jellal can use mineral magic to create and control minerals, he mainly combine it with alchemy to create alloys out of different minerals and transmute it into metal objects such as bullets for his revolver or to create ceramic glaze to applied onto pottery.

Jellal can create very strong defensive barriers to shield against powerful attacks as well as a shield of magic to protect himself and the people around him. Jellal also learned from Lecheroth defense magic to protect himself from the adverse effects of reading the Holy Bible without suffering headaches as a half-Devil. As Jellal gained deeper knowledge of magic, his defense magic skills became more refined as he invented more advanced defensive spells that can easily defend against Balance Breakers and Counter Balance, easily produced the most powerful protection spells in battle.

    • Piercing Void: Izanami Burial: A new variation of the Piercing Void spell Jellal invented, it creates a gigantic coffin shaped torrent of gravity powerful enough to atomize any target within its range, at full power it can distort space time on a scale greater than Devouring Heaven Devastation.

• Enhancement Magic: Jellal is also highly skilled in physical enhancement magic to enhanced his own physical abilities as well as enhancing the physical abilities of others. During his fight with Sequitous Sargatanas and the biological weapon Argus, Jellal combined physical enhancement magic with the power of his Mahesvara Qlipphoth Rakshasa armour to combat them, including using a Tenjinmon Ninja spell derived from kotodama to enhanced the cutting power of Yomi no Setsudan to create a slashing shockwave that bisected Sequitous and Argus along with the surrounding laboratory.
• Hypnosis Magic: Jellal can use Hypnosis magic, quickly using it on Yusuke after he noticed him peeking on him having extramarital sex with his mother making him lose consciousness.
• Memory Magic: Jellal can use memory alteration magic, using it on Yusuke to erase his memory of witnessing his mother's affair with him which would have traumatized him forever ruining his future like his Gibo hentai anime counterpart. He also used this magic to implant false memories in Eizo Yagami of having sex with his wife in a drunken stupor to prevent him from finding out his wife's adultery after Jellal had impregnated Yusuke Yagami's Mother during their extramaritial sex, so that they could pass off their illegitimate daughter Natsumi as Eizo's child. Jellal also used this magic to extensively modified the memories of several famous historical figures he met in the past to avoid changing history.
• Summoning Magic: Jellal has some skills in summoning magic, he is capable of summoning the Namazu Gensho, the Raiju Dendo, the Pegasus/Pale Horse hybrid Matsukaze and Yatagarasu Yamato.

Immense Strength: Being a Dragon/Devil hybrid along with years of countless amount of extremely rigorous ongoing training since childhood. Jellal has tremendous superhuman physical strength and fortitude. His colossal physical power can lift gigantic objects, smash through the hardest defenses and counter the most powerful attacks with his bare hands. Due to his intense physical training under Lecheroth through various muscle training exercises and Shito-ryu Karate, further developed his constituition through Senjutsu, at 10 years old, Jellal was already physically strong enough to defeat High Class Devils. After five years of rigorously intensified training, Jellal's strength was immensely enhanced, able to wield hefty weapons while maintaining god speed, his strength supplements his mastery of swordsmanship, able to perform tremendously powerful slashes to cut through incredibly hard objects. Jellal could cleanly slice opened armoured tanks and Alchemy customized giant robots deployed by the Lords of Alchemy. When enhanced by the Shadow Boosted Gear, Jellal could bisect the giant sized Goddess from the right shoulder right down to the hip with Arondight and also defend immensely powerful strikes from the Goddess's gigantified Excalibur that cut through skyscrapers. Jellal's strength continued to increased with intense daily training by the age of 22, Jellal could clash equivalently with Sairaorg, defend, intercept and counter his extremely powerful physical strikes vastly enhanced by the Regulus Rey Leather Rex. Enhanced by the Shadow Boosted Gear, Jellal could block all of Airi's attacks in her Golden Dragon Armour with refined brute force, completely crushed Rossweisse's Mistilteinn enhanced Defense Magic. The power Jellal applied into his sword swings can generate immensely powerful compressed air slashes with massive range that can even bifurcate Rias Gremory's Extinguished Star in half.

Immense Speed: Due to his training, Jellal's speed and reflexes are of the greatest caliber, able to sprint immense distances, keeping up with multiple God Speed opponents at once, creating numerous afterimages of his movements instantly take down numerous enemies crossing his path with tremendous speed. Jellal's physical attacks are immensely fast, making it extremely difficult for countless enemies to react and evade. Jellal also studied Chinese literature which he became interested in from reading Chinese books that Guan Aisha had gave him, he could write a Chinese prose of Hu Shih from memory which deeply impressed Di Renjie. His knowledge on history further increased after being time slipped to the past, witnessing events and details that were unrecorded by historians.
  • Master Linguist: From Lecheroth's homeschooling, Jellal quickly learned and mastered how to read and write English, Latin and Japanese with great fluency. During his time living with Vergil, Jellal also learnt to read French, German and Italian at a primary education level. He further improved his linguistic skills and knowledge through constant reading, eventually self-taught himself how to read Greek, Hebrew, Spanish, Portugese, Russian, Arabic, Sanskrit and Persian. Master Chef: Having learnt from Lecheroth and Cardia, further honed through years of practise since childhood as well as his adaptive learning to mastered a wide range of new cooking skills and knowledge from reading and observation, Jellal is a master chef with an extremely high level of culinary skill. Jellal can also used his adaptive learning to replicated the cooking style of talented master chefs no matter how difficult to reproduced many different delicacies. Even Lieselotte an extremely talented chef believed that her cooking skills are inferior to Jellal. His grandfather Zeoticus Gremory a supreme master chef was deeply impressed by Jellal's cooking talent. Jellal have inherited many of Lecheroth's self-invented recipes via Lecheroth's personalized cookbooks. He also learned numerous recipes from reading cooking manga, cookbooks, or browsing the internet, even getting recipe inspiration from watching fictional chefs cooking in mangas, animes or movies. Due to intense survival training by Lecheroth, Jellal have extensive knowledge of wild edible foragable plants and wild game meat including methods to prepare them for consumption though he lacks confidence in identifying wild edible mushrooms. Though Jellal stated while he is good at simmering, grilling and frying, unlike his foster mothers, he does not excel in baking and making confectionery, pastries and cakes which are Lieselotte and Kanade's specialties due to finding baking a hassle, the only baked dishes he could make are lasagne al forno and pasta al forno. When he timeslipped to the past, he also learned many new recipes from past Germany, France, Wales, China, Iraq, Italy and Japan which he made new improvements to it using high quality ingredients and modern cooking techniques. In a fish bone broth, crabs are simmered along with edible seaweed, spices bought from a merchant ship and sea purslane are added, rum is added last and simmered further to improve its flavour.

Master Artist: Jellal is a skilled illustrator and amateur manga artist.

• Master Calligrapher: Taught by Lecheroth and later continued to practise as a hobby after he came to live in Japan, Jellal is an exceptional master calligrapher, Jellal had learned Maki Ryouko's calligraphy style from Lecheroth before switch to studying Yamaoka Tesshu's calligraphy. After being time slipped to Tang Dynasty China and Heian period Japan, Jellal has gain the chance to analyze ancient calligraphy manuscripts of Ouyang Xun, Yu Shinan, the original long lost works of Wang Xizhi from Tang Taizong's personal collection as well as the calligraphic works of Kukai and Tachibana no Hayanari in Heian-kyo which improved his calligraphy technique. In addition to the taiko and shinobue, Jellal is also an immensely gifted master pianist, completely self-taught from having watched his foster mother Lecheroth playing the piano countless times during his childhood, partially replicating her piano skills which he further improved through constant practise as well as reading many of Cardia's piano method books such as John Sylvanus Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano for reference with Cardia help teaching him the basics of reading music which led to the discovery of his immense talent for sight-reading. Through constant self-study and practise, Jellal had fully replicated and mastered Lecheroth's piano technique from memory, and through his uncanny talent and skill in sight-reading play many musical masterpieces flawlessly with virtuoso skill, sonorous resonance and harmony. After finding Lecheroth's hand written music scores when he returned back to Lecheroth's monastery, for the first time after several years, Jellal also learnt to perform all of Lecheroth's personal compositions, playing it so often he became a master in all of them, including Lecheroth's three most difficult compositions. Even master pianists like Sirzechs, Dorossel and Flora were impressed by Jellal's musical skills. He could perform a duet with Mirabel a master violinist with impeccable tempo, rhythm and coordination. He could also play a piano four hands duet with Dorossel. Despite his music genius, Jellal admitted to have no talent in writing and composing music claiming to have zero music creativity as he can only performed music.

• Traditional Japanese Music:Jellal is extraordinarily skilled and talented in playing traditional Japanese music using the shinobue and taiko. He frequently played Japanese folk music in his spare time and in Shinto festivals during his time as a Mugen Tenshin ninja and later as an exorcist stationed in Kyoto when helping out in the Shinto shrine of Wakoto's family during Shinto festivals.
• Classical Music: Due to his immense talent in the piano, Jellal can play countless pieces of classical music on the piano, his musical repertoire include the works of Franz Liszt, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn, Edvard Grieg, Robert Schumann and Lecheroth.

Master Hunter: Jellal is extremely skilled hunter. Having learnt the basics from Lecheroth and further honed through fours months of intense survival experience in the Alps. Jellal would continued to frequently hunt animals from time to time for food especially to acquire special meat such as boar, bison, bears, crocodiles, rabbits, swans, pheasants, snakes, beavers and deers.

Expert Fisherman: Jellal has considerable skill in fishing using a hand net and a fishing rod.

Master Sportsman: Due to his superhuman physical prowess as a Dragon/Devil hybrid, Jellal has supernatural aptitude for sports, particularly martial arts, bodybuilding, skipping rope, running and calisthetics which he practice daily as part of his physical training. Jellal also enjoyed swimming and playing tennis solely for recreation when spending time with his lovers.

Master Artisan: Due to his high level alchemy skills, Jellal can use alchemy to craft highly intricate objects such as the Double Tsuba Charm for Azai Chacha and also a beautiful flower hair ornament for Sayuki Kushihashi as a gift. With amazing craftsmanship in combining hand-building and alchemy, Jellal also created chawan tea bowls and yunomi teacups in imitation of traditional Japanese raku ware in a self-taught pottery style he called alchemic raku which uses alchemy to apply ceramic glaze and substitued the use of pottery firing in a kiln to instantly dry and harden his pottery, allowing him to quickly produced many raku ware with immense efficiency and in significantly shorter production time. Blade Blacksmith:Jellal receives it from Wakoto Izumi after her death. The Blade Blacksmith has the ability to create an arsenal of numerous Holy Swords of different attributes and abilities. Jellal can also create the blades of these swords on any surface within his limited area.

• Shurikens: Jellal can create shuriken type holy swords
• Holy Arrows: Similar to Wakoto, Jellal can create arrow type holy swords, designed after Japanese arrows to be used for archery.
• Mahesvara Qlipphoth Rakshasa (凶邪羅刹化身の覇王) Jellal's Sub-Species Balance Breaker for Blade Blacksmith, also known as Incarnation of the Fiendish Rakshasa Overlord. It create a silver samurai armour with a demonic visage which greatly enhanced Jellal's strength, speed and defense. The armour has multiple retractable blades stored in the gauntlets that can be used for lethal slashing atttacks. While Mahesvara Qlipphoth Rakshasa is activated, Jellal can create six uniquely powerful holy weapons called the Six Wazamono. While Jellal is able to manifest all six of them at the same time and regenerate them from damage using his aura, unlike the ordinary Holy Swords, he is unable to create multiples of the Six Wazamono due to having focused all of Blade Blacksmith's Balance Breaker enhanced power and potential entirely into their creation and development of their respective abilities, which also rendered Jellal unable to create any other Holy Swords aside from the Six Wazamonos, while using this Balance Breaker. As Jellal further improved his mastery over his Balance Breaker, he could take advantage of Blade Blacksmith's absolute potential as a Sacred Gear, to continuously strengthened and evolved the Six Wazamonos limitlessly with his indomitable willpower and emotion, to the point they became as powerful as the legendary Holy Swords such as Excalibur and Durandal. Jellal can also channeled magic into them to enhanced their power.
  • First Wazamono: Jibashiri (土割の破壊者:地走): Also known as the Earth Cleaving Destroyer, a massively powerful battleaxe able to create and control earth. It can also channels energy from the surrounding terrain, the very earth itself to greatly enhanced its aura and offensive power.

  • Fifth Wazamono: Rekka Tenshou (百陽の宝剣: 烈火 天照): Also known as the Treasured Sword of a Hundred Sun, a Japanese Tachi that possess the power of the Sun, able to generate solar energy that can burn and vaporize everything. Rekka Tensho's power is at its strongest during the day, when exposed to the sun, which Rekka Tenshou can harness and absorb tremendous amount of sunlight to further enhanced its power. Likewise, Jellal can also channel fire magic into it to drastically enhanced its power.

While Kurukshetra Karmic Disaster is active, the Six Wazamono can also be manifested as living weapons with their power enhanced by several magnitudes, each of the Six Relics have the form of a creature and also can transform into combat gears to be utilized by Jellal.
  • Evolved Jibashiri: Jibashiri takes the form of a large Namazu. It has immense strength along with enhanced earth based powers to generate earthquakes and also channeling vast amount of earth based energy from the surrounding terrain to enhanced its strength and aura. It can transformed into an massive Japanese style battle axe adorned with a Namazu motif for Jellal usage.
  • Evolved Sounga: Sounga takes the form of a white tiger and black tiger, which have the power to manipulate light and darkness respectively. It can transform into an Indian Trishula trident.
  • Evolved Raikoumaru: Raikoumaru takes the form of a blue thunder bird with the ability to generate and manipulate large amount of Holy Lightning, it can transform into a Fangtian Ji halberd
  • Evolved Rekka Tensho: Rekka Tensho takes the form of an enormous Yatagarasu with solar based powers, able to fire solar flames from its mouth in the form of massive sun like fire balls. It can also absorb large amount of sunlight to enhanced its power. It can transform into a large stylised Seven-Branched Sword.
  • Evolved Yomi no Setsudan: Yomi no Setsudan takes the form of a giant Shikigami like metal golem shaped like an armored samurai wielding a Zanbato which possess enormous strength and endurance. Excalibur (エクスカリバー, Ekusukaribā): The original Excalibur of AxA universe, Jellal's usage of Excalibur emphasized adaptation, transforming Excalibur into unique individual forms distinctively different from the seven Excalibur Fragments, using Excalibur's abilities in specific combinations which he can freely switch depending on the situation. It was later badly destroyed by Lilith, but was later restored and refined by Ashleigh to be significantly more powerful than before, enhancing its overall power and durability.

• Elucidator: Excalibur's form of a red Kriegsmesser, a single edged long sword with a slight curve at the end with a long black hilt ,connected to a hand guard that drops down on the right side, part of Elucidator's blade is attached to this elongated area of the hand-guard, overall it is a full head taller than Jellal himself. Emphasizing on Excalibur Destruction ability, Jellal can use Elucidator to perform massively powerful slashes that can reach extremely long distances, sending spiraling holy aura at a target with pinpoint precision, slicing monsters or buildings from afar.

• Yatagarasu (八咫烏, Eight-span Crow): Excalibur's form of a Kissaki Moroha-Zukuri style double-edged Tachi with a jet-black blade, a squared gold tsuba handguard and a white tsuka hilt, its design is inspired by Kogarasumaru a famous Japanese tachi and named after Yatagarasu the mythical crow of Shinto mythology. Emphasizing on Excalibur Rapidly ability, Jellal can use Yatagarasu to perform his Kenjutsu, Kendo or Ingetsu-ryu techniques with even greater speed while maintaining the Excalibur's sharpness and destructive power for offense, unleashing dozens of attacks in a second to the point his swordsmanship couldn’t be seen.

Arondight: The original Arondight of AxA universe, one of the legendary Holy Swords which is a sister blade to Excalibur and Galatine, and was cursed by Lancelot's madness due to his failure to prevent Camelot's downfall into becoming a Demon Sword. Jellal previously wielded Arondight against the Goddess after receiving it from the dying Theodore which resulted in its breaking as it clashed against the Goddess's gigantified Excalibur. Naamah Ferrum:One of Sparda Lucifuge's 12 Longinus Class Satanic Arms in the form of a Katana, it can also transform into a large red Eastern Dragon with a black belly, four limbs and two large wings as well as a beautiful young woman with red and black hair. Naamah Ferrum is capable of disorting space and dimension with immense power and scale on pair with the Longinus Dimension Lost. Universal Sword of Jiang Ziya (姜子牙の乾坤剣, Kyou Shiga no Kenkonken): A powerful mystic sword forged from a meteorite by Jiang Ziya, and cursed by the bloodshed of the Warring States period. It was Yu Ji's favourite sword, after Yu Ji's defeat and death, Jellal claimed the sword as his prize.

Anubis: An ancient Egyptian magic khopesh with a jet black blade given by Isis Apep. It was forged from a meteorite in a powerful Egyptian magic ritual by Imhotep the legendary Egyptian High priest as a ceremonial weapon for the pharaoh Djoser, named after Anubis the Egyptian jackal headed God of the Underworld.

Azai Ichimonji (浅井一文字, Azai Straight Line): A historical famous katana once belonging to Azai Nagamasa forged by the Kamakura period master swordsmith Muneyoshi, the sword was passed down to Azai Chacha, Nagamasa's daughter following her father's death. Chacha having gradually fallen in love with Jellal entrusted the sword to Jellal as a good luck charm with her blessing for the latter's safety in his dangerous journey. Luther enhanced the Azai Ichimonji with magic and alchemy, turning it into a Spirit Sword. In the climax of Jellal's battle against Tamamo-no-Mae who possessed Chacha's body, Jellal used Azai Ichimonji alongside a Spirit Magic spell to strike down Tamamo-no-Mae's spirit, freeing Chacha. Stratos (formerly): An alchemical rifle created by Cliff a researcher for the Church and a secret member of the Lords of Alchemy. It has shown to be powerful enough to damage armoured helipcopter. It was later destroyed by Cliff himself using a self destruct alchemy spell he implanted in the rifle first hand.

Magic Body Armour: Luther had modified several of Jellal's clothings including his exorcist attire transmute and synthesize into them an advanced alchemical synthethic fabric of Lute's invention which is light, flexible like cloth yet extremely durable, further imbued with special defensive spells invented by Lute himself. • Jellal's hobbies are physical training, magic training, Qigong meditation, eating delicious food, culinary tourism, cooking, reading, Japanese calligraphy, playing the piano, taiko and shinobue, playing eroge visual novels, watching anime and movies and most of all spending time with his wives and lovers.
  • He also enjoyed making Japanese chawans and yunomis using hand-building and alchemy, as he tried self-taught himself to make raku ware using alchemy without the need of a personal kiln which he considered too expensive and too much off a hassle to use. In fact, the different chawans and yunomis Jellal used when drinking green tea were personally made by him.
  • As a chef, Jellal learnt a majority of his recipes from cooking manga and cookbooks. His favourite cookbooks are A Book of Mediterranean Food, French Country Cooking, French Provincial Cooking and Spices, Salt and Aromatics in the English Kitchen by Elizabeth David, Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking by Marcella Hazan, The Joy of Cooking by Irma S. Rombauer, The Quick and Easy Japanese Cookbook by Katsuyo Kobayashi
  • Jellal also enjoyed hunting, as he frequently hunt for both leisure and a livelihood. He would go hunting in the mountains and forests of Japan, China, Mongolia, Africa, Europe, Australia, Canada or United States. His favourite hunting locations are England, Scotland, France, Sweden, Norway, Russia and Japan.
• While Jellal like to drink matcha, he dislike Japanese Tea Ceremony due to its hassle, prefering informally drink matcha with a chawan tea bowl while enjoying wagashi.
• As a hunter, Jellal's favourite animals to hunt are bison, deer, crocodile, turkey and pheasant.
• Due to being raised in the UK of AxA Universe for most of his childhood since five years old, Jellal speaks with an English accent.
  • This also led to his habit of occasionally speaking English as well as incorporating English words into Japanese dialouge when speaking. Including insult people in English.
• Though Jellal chose to work for the Church as an Exorcist, he did it solely to imitate Vasco Strada whom he admired to help people rather than out of religious faith. While Jellal also studied in depth Christianity, like Lecheroth he did it with an academic approach for knowledge and understanding about the Three Factions instead of faith. Unlike Vasco, Jellal joined the Protestant Church.
• Due to his deep interest in Christian Mythology, Jellal frequently read the Holy Bible and Christian literature, he became particularly fascinated with the legend of Samson from the Book of Judges of the Old Testament who possesed godlike strength and indomitable willpower. Once while completely outnumbered in a battle against the Lucifer Faction Devil King Army, Jellal resorted to using one of the Devil King Tarot Card to power up and prayed to Samson to give him the strength and will to pull through the dangerous power up.
• Jellal has a keen interest in Japanese swords, though he gave up on using money to be a Japanese sword collector due to considering buying Japanese swords for collecting an excessively expensive hobby. Instead, he would collect and accept Japanese swords that were given to him for free as a gift. When Jellal time-slipped to the Sengoku era in 1585, he took the opportunity pick up as many Japanese swords that were left on the battlefield by defeated samurais as he could for his personal collection, he also used his Ninjutsu skills to successfully steal numerous Japanese swords that were under the possessions of Japanese peasants as Jellal knew the swords owned by them will eventually be confiscated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Taikō's Sword Hunt in 1588 to be destroyed by being melted down to create a giant image of the Buddha for the Asuka-dera temple which Jellal considered a great waste of cultural relics. Thus, Jellal was able to acquired tens of thousands of high quality Japanese swords mostly from the Yamashiro school, Bizen school and Soshu school including the works of historical famous swordsmiths such as Masamune, Sadamune and Muramasa that was meant to be lost either to history or Hideyoshi's sword hunt before he and Luther left the Sengoku period.

• Jellal also have penchant for collecting special and unique weapons, either given to him as a gift by friends and acquaintances or taken from powerful enemies.
• Jellal have vast knowledge of different historical weapons and fictional weapons mainly from popular culture of historical fiction and fantasy in manga, anime, movies and video games. He commonly applied the otaku weapon knowledge on Excalibur's Mimic ability to transform into different kinds of weapons to wield depending on circumstances. He also applied it on Blade Blacksmith when developing its subspecies Balance Breaker. Due to being a manga enthusiast, he drafted the weapon designs he personally came up with into a notebook for the manga characters he came up with, which would be used by the future Zangetsu as reference to create weapons.
• During his timeslip to the past, Jellal shared a close romantic relationship with four different women from different time periods, Yao Ziqiang (姚紫薔), Aliya, Kaguya Himejima (姫島神夜) and Azai Chacha (浅井茶々), however, he refused to bring them back to his era to officially married them as his wives to avoid changing history.
  • When Jellal time slipped to Tang dynasty China in 646, while attending a banquet held by Di Zhixun in Chang' an at Di Renjie's generous offer, Jellal first met Yao Ziqiang a nineteen year old Chinese courtesan who was famous in Chang'an not only for her immense beauty and grace but also a prodigious genius in playing music, poetry and dancing, performing in the banquet alongside her fellow courtesans. While taking a stroll under the full moon after the banquet, Jellal became captivated by beautiful music he overheard which he followed the source to find that it was Yao Ziqiang playing the pipa. Jellal became further acquainted with Yao Ziqiang, where they became friends due to Ziqiang's interest in poetry which Jellal managed to appeal to her with his deep knowledge of Chinese poetry and Kanshi poetry, Ziqiang take a great liking to Jellal, so much she allowed Jellal to freely visit her which she would entertained him with music or dance free of charge. Throughout his three month time in Tang dynasty China, Jellal constantly visited Ziqiang where he attentively listen to her music while drinking tea or huangjiu, they also discussed Chinese poetry. Ziqiang also taught Jellal how to play the Dizi. Ziqiang eventually confessed to Jellal her love after two months of knowing each other, Jellal also confided in Ziqiang, while he also mutually reciporated her love, he could not officially marry her as his wife as he actually came from the future and will eventually leave Tang dynasty China to returned home back to his era and he cannot let her go back with him to his era to avoid changing history. Believing and accepting Jellal's words, Ziqiang requested Jellal to at least have sex with her in order to consummate their love, as she wished to be sexually united and connected with the man she fell for which Jellal happily accepted. Jellal would spent his visits to Ziqiang over the next month, having extremely passionate sex with her during their trysts. After finding the required fragment of the Time Dial to jump to the next time period, Jellal requested Luther to let him have one last tryst with Ziqiang. On the night before Jellal and Luther jump to the next time period, Jellal and Ziqiang have sex for the last time, afterwards Ziqiang gave Jellal her favourite dizi flute and her favourite folding fan with a glamourous peony painted on it which she had also written on it a wonderful love poem she composed to expressed her love for Jellal as a parting gift. Jellal also gave her his Sacred Beast Jade Amulet as a memento and a token of his love, he also told Ziqiang his real name. Unbeknownst to Jellal, Ziqiang would conceived his daughter named Yao Hongjing.
  • When he timeslipped to Iraq during the Abbasid Caliphate, while working in Baghad as a scholar in the House of Wisdom, Jellal met Aliya an Arabic Qiyān
  • When he time slipped to Sengoku period Japan in 1585, he met Kaguya Himejima a member of the Himejima clan whom Jellal and Luther informed they were from the future, as they spent time fighting together through many foes and adventuring in the Sengoku period Japan, Kaguya became attracted to Jellal for his kindness and strength of heart.
  • While in Sengoku period Japan in 1585, Jellal met Azai Chacha, the eldest daughter of Azai Nagamasa and Oichi in Kyoto. Having lost both of her parents to the chaos of war at an early age, Chacha held deep grief and despair regarding her life, while having to struggle in becoming the guardian of her younger sisters Ohatsu and Ogo. Jellal greatly sympathized with Chacha due to understanding the sadness and despair of losing people she love and with his knowledge of Japanese history knew that her life will eventually come to a tragic end in the Siege of Osaka. Under his alias Ryuma, Jellal claimed to be a half-Japanese samurai born to a Japanese father and European mother, befriended the Azai sisters
• Jellal's height is 171cm at age 15, 173cm at age 16 and 175cm his maximum height at age 17.
• Jellal became a father at age 15 after Wakoto conceived and gave birth to his first child Zangetsu.
• Jellal is four years older than Kurenai and Airi. Both Kurenai and Airi due to still being infant could not remember about their older half-brother Jellal before he was abducted.
• Jellal lost his first foster mother Lecheroth at age 10, two weeks after Lecheroth's death, Jellal was adopted by Cardia Bifrons, after happily living with Cardia and her daughter Lieselotte for a year and three months, Jellal lost his second foster mother Cardia at age 11.
